For over 170 years Winsor & Newton has been developing and perfecting the world finest oil paints. With a worldwide reputation for unparalled excellence and consistency, Winsor & Newton is one of the most popular and trusted brand among students, professional artists, and everyone in-between.
Winsor & Newton Artists' Oil Colors are produced with great care and maximum quality control. Each color is individually formulated with the most suitable drying oils and methods of pigment dispersion to preserve its natural characteristics and ensure stability of color. All Winsor & Newton Artists' Oil colors have a maximum pigment load to achieve optimum tinting strength. The robustness of a tint can be seen when a pigment is mixed with white. Oil paints with lower pigment quantity will not have the bright intensity that Winsor & Newton Artists' Oil Colors have. Another product of pigment quantity is covering power, which is in evidence in opaque colors such as Titanium White and the Cadmiums. The thickness and relative stiffness of the paint promotes greater coverage.
With the finest grade pigments and the strictest quality control also comes a promise that your paintings will stand the test of time. Of the 120 colors in the line, 119 are classed 'permanent for artists' use.' These have either an AA or an A on the Winsor & Newton permanence ratings, a designation that aids in the longevity of paintings.
Consistent with the features of all premium oil paints, Artists' Oil Color allows for full workability and blending opportunities by remaining soft and wet for a few days. Thin films will become dry to the touch in 2-12 days. Winsor & Newton strives to reduce the occurance of slow drying under layers by individually formulating each color to optimize its drying rate. Variations do exist in different colors dependent on the particular pigment and the amount of medium used.
